Insight Development Grant

Insight Development Grant 2022

I will provide three examples of creative work

  1. Alberta #3 (2017-20). An example of an autoethnographic experimental film about mental illness.

  2. ALL SKY, MIRROR OCEAN. (in press). I have provide a section of the book describing research experiences at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

  3. The Birth of the World film series (2019-21). Director’s notes describing the creation of a 3D-rendered dance film series that shows the 3D-rendered form the film will take. This has many of the elements visually and technically that this project will use.

Alberta #3

Due to the reviewers limited time to assess creative content I would recommend beginning at the 8 minute mark and watching till you get a sense of the way auto ethnographic stories are told.

ALL SKY, MIRROR OCEAN

ALL SKY, MIRROR OCEAN: A Healing Manifesto is an autoethnographic poetic exploration weaving and knotting my lived experience of mental illness and healing with others’, enriching ongoing conversations between disability studies, mad arts, research-creation, medical humanities, western and eastern philosophy, physics, positive psychology, and psychiatry. It recently passed peer-review with no revisions and was recommended as “a serious advance in state-of-the-art research” and has been accepted by the University of Alberta Press for publication in early-2023.

The Birth of the World

This is a visual representation of how I weave digital video, motion capture, photogrammetry, LIDAR scans, original musical compositions, and dance into my 3D-rendered digital worlds.
